A CBI team conducted search operations in educational institutions in Nurpur, Una, Nahan and Sirmaur districts and seized the records in Rs 250-crore scholarship scam on Tuesday.
The investigation into the award of scholarships to students of Himachal Pradesh belonging to the Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribe and Other Backwards Caste categories during 2013 to 2017 is in progress and more raids can be conducted.
The government had registered the case on the complaints made by the parents and wards regarding the non-receipt of scholarships to the entitled students. Since the amount was whopping and the network of the scam spread to other states also, the probe was entrusted to the CBI.
The CBI had raided private educational institutions in Himachal, Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh in May and seized the records of institutions in Karnal, Mohali, Nawanshahr, Ambala and Gurdaspur.
The CBI is collecting the details of scholarship money, distributed by institutions, the number of students who received the money and the bank accounts in which it was credited.
Besides educational institutions, some banks in Chandigarh and Haryana are also on the radar and complicity of some government officials is not ruled out.
